Here are a couple of good links to give you information about what's involved and about the different certifying organizations:

Delta Society® is an international, not-for-profit organization who promotes animals helping people to improve peoples lives.  Through their Pet Partners® Team Training Course, community volunteers are taught what they and their animal need to know to become a successful Pet Partner® team.  They are also unique from other certifying groups in that they focus on the handler/animal team (not just the dog), and that they also evaluate cats, ponies and other non-canine species.

The Delta Society Pet Partners® Evaluation is broken into two sections:
